What is Girth Training in Pompoir?

guide science Jul 20, 2024

This post covers a topic related to vaginal gymnastics or Pompoir, the practice of mastering the pelvic floor muscles to create all sorts of unique sensations during sex to enhance female pleasure. If you want to learn more about vaginal gymnastics, read our full guide on Pompoir here.

I started playing the trumpet this week. Or, rather, I started learning how to play the trumpet this week.

And one of the things that I found out through my YouTube rabbit hole of brass instruments, is that, theoretically I should be able to play every single note on the trumpet just using the mouthpiece

You don’t need to do this (the valves in the trumpet are there to help you adjust the pitch and switch notes), but you can do it, and it’s a great way to practice, so you should do it.

That was fascinating to me.

The fact that I could use just my mouth and a tiny piece of metal to reproduce all the notes in the scale is absolutely insane. And the vocal cords are not involved here – each note varies depending on how you position your lips and how fast you let air out.

How does any of this relate to vaginal gymnastics, a.k.a. Pompoir?

Well, my fascination with this fun fact about the trumpet’s mouthpiece led me to another rabbit hole on YouTube about the lips’ musculature.

It turns out, it’s rather complex.

Some lip muscles help you smile. Other, completely different lip muscles, help you 'fake smile.' Another set of lip muscles helps you blow a kiss.

The fact that the mouth is an orifice and we do so many things with it (speak, kiss, chew, swallow) requires an extremely complex structure.

And I think this is a great way to think about the muscles that surround the vaginal orifice.

The reason why we’re able to create so many different movements with the pelvic floor is that we’re surrounding a canal, which means there are muscles at each side of it – the front, the back, the right side, the left side, and its corners.

And it’s a rather long canal, so we’ve got different levels of depth to these muscles, as well!

This comparison sets the tone for what I really want to cover today: girth training.

What is Vaginal “Girth Training”?

Girth training
is what I call practicing the different vaginal exercises in a way that more closely resembles sex. Specifically, using objects of different girths so that you get your muscles used to that inner resistance when performing the Pompoir skills.

This is all part of a bigger concept called functional training, that I’m not going to get into today, and that I plan to cover fully in an upcoming lesson of The Ohlympus Program.

Nonetheless, here’s what concerns us today:

Throughout your Vaginal Goddess journey, you might find that while you’ve been able to achieve certain exercises during your weekly training sessions, they’re not as easy to perform in the bedroom.

And this is especially true for complex skills that involve the coordination of many vaginal regions, such as twisting or shimmying.

Let me illustrate this by quickly going back to our lip muscles example (and yes, I mean our facial lip muscles, you dirty minx).

Say the words: 'I love you.' Go on, do it.

Great. Now do the same thing, but place a finger between your teeth as you say the words.

Doesn’t sound as clean, does it?

Finally, say the words 'I love you' while placing two fingers, one on top of the other, between your teeth.

Sounds even more distorted, right? Especially when you try to pronounce the “v” in “love”.

This is what happens with your vagina. It is much harder to reproduce certain exercises when you have an object, some fingers, or a penis inside of you, placing resistance against your muscles.

While this is probably not the case for every exercise – just like you probably wouldn’t have an issue saying all the vowel sounds even with two fingers in between your teeth– it is likely going to happen with movements that require more finesse.

Movements where you’re moving just tiny regions of your muscles, such as squeezing the top level, but only at the left side of your vaginal canal, and alternating that with contracting the entry level, but only at the right side of your canal – those are going to be much easier performed on your own than with a partner.

And this can get really frustrating. Because you want to perform them during sexy time while having someone or something inside of you. That’s the whole point of this training!

Do not despair. This all gets better with practice.

In fact, I could bet you anything that if you practiced saying 'I love you' with your two fingers stacked on top of each other, and between your teeth every day for a couple of weeks, you’d be able to say 'I love you' perfectly.

You’d find a way to make your lips wrap around your fingers more closely for that “v” sound in “love”. You’d find a better positioning for your tongue during the “y” sound in “you”. And you’d be able to reproduce the entire sentence perfectly, by slightly adjusting the movement of your lip muscles.

The same thing goes for your vagina.

When you master a new, very complex move on your own, consider doing a couple of weeks of Girth Training before showcasing it in the bedroom.

First, perform it for a week while having your fingers inside of you. This is a great way of really analyzing what needs to be adjusted or which parts need to be improved when having some resistance inside of you.

Once you feel like you’ve understood the choreography of tiny vaginal motions, move on to performing the move using a dildo or a vibrator inside of you.

Here, not only will you start adjusting your muscles to a wider girth, but you’ll also understand which parts of the move feel better for you, which is what we most care about.

Finally, once you feel ready, bring it to the bedroom.

Depending on the girth of your partner, this might be an easy transition, or it might require some more finessing.

Either way, you know what to do.

Stay tuned for some more brass instrument metaphors. Who knows, maybe I’ll write a tutorial on how to spell “I love you” using your other, lower lips.

Have a great night, goddess ;)
